Dickerson murder trial delayed

COPIAH COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - The high-profile Copiah County murder trial of David Dickerson has been delayed until next year.

Copiah County District Attorney Alexander Martin says the trial has been postponed until March 19. The trial had been scheduled to begin Tuesday.

Dickerson is charged with the stabbing and shooting death of 36-year-old Paula Hamilton.

Hamilton was the mother of Dickerson’s teenage daughter.

District Attorney Martin says the defense filed a request for a continuance in the trial so Dickerson can be evaluated by psychiatrists.

Crystal Springs woman charged with Medicaid fraud

COPIAH COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - A Crystal Springs woman was arrested Wednesday and is facing Medicaid fraud charged.

Attorney General Jim Hood said, 58-year-old Linda Harris, an attendant care provider, was arrested Wednesday following and indictment Sept. 27, by a Copiah County Grand Jury for one count of felonious Medicaid fraud, exploitation of a vulnerable person and uttering a forgery.

Harris allegedly made false statements when making claims for reimbursement for making trips to see a patient, when the patient actually lived in Harris’ home.

Copiah Co. men arrested for alligator hunting

LAWRENCE COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - Four Copiah County men have been arrested for illegally hunting and killing alligators out of season in Lawrence County.

They also face charges of having alligator remains in their possession. Mississippi Wildlife officials arrested the men Saturday on the Pearl River in Lawrence County.

The group includes Christian Collins, 23, from Wesson, Michael Easterling, 21, of Wesson, Spencer Pell, 22, of Crystal Springs, and Johnny Dow, 19, of Crystal Springs.

Copiah Co. men face felony woods arson charges

HAZLEHURST, MS (WLBT) - Two Copiah County men have been charged with multiple counts of felony woods arson in two counties.

According to a news release from the Mississippi Forestry Commission, Shelton Coleman, 24, of Wesson, and Chester Albert Borne III, 23, of Hazlehurst, have each been charged with four counts of felony woods arson and one count or first degree arson for allegedly burning a structure in Copiah County.

In Lawrence County, the men have been charged with one county of felony arson and two counts of first degree arson for allegedly burning two structures.

Four students expelled after knives found at school

WESSON, MS (WLBT) - Four Wesson Attendance Center students were expelled Thursday after they were reportedly caught with knives at the school.

The Wesson Police Department reports four students were caught passing knives around in class. The students range in age from 11 to 15 years old.

Police officials say the students were brought to the office, where they discovered the students in possession of four knives. Investigators also found an unidentified white substance.
